Momoko, the eponymous toy robot, inspired Fondue Music artists DAS MAER – consisting of electro scene veterans Yannek Maunz, Brascon and Johanson – to create a long-playing record worthy of her first syllable. More than an hour of contrasting sounds – from violin and children’s choir to TB-03 and autotune – awaits the listener here. Embedded in it are stories, fantasies and clownish poems about growing up, falling in love, partying, driving in a 40-ton truck or on a night bus, sometimes heartbreakingly melancholy, sometimes unworldly optimistic, and always hidden deep between the lines. The three collaborators remain true to the credo of their previous work: always following intuition, courageously crossing genre boundaries and, above all, never taking themselves too seriously. So there it is: something that has never been like this before and yet feels like something you’ve always wanted.
